About the Authors

David Ward has been an Elvis fan for over 50 years and a record collector for most of that time. He was born in England but has spent most of his adult life working in Japan. He wrote and published the eBook, From Elvis In Japan: Japanese LPs, 1956 – 2018, in 2021. The project developed into a full-blown Elvis Japan discography, From Memphis To Tokyo, which was published in 2023 with Dick Dekker. David translated the Japanese book, Elvis Through The Eyes Of Japan (Elvis Society of Japan, 2024) into English. In 2023, he met his co-author, Atsushi Nakamura, who had earlier produced two Japanese books on FTD releases, from 1999 to 2021. They agreed to collaborate on English versions of the books, updated to 2025.

Atsushi Nakumara was born in Tokyo in 1964. He is an Elvis scholar, and music and video creator. In 2003, he launched the quarterly publication, Elvis Sound Magazine, which analyzes and explains Elvis' sound in an easy-toread style. It later became the newsletter for the EPE-certified fan club, For Elvis Sound Fans Only. In 2008, he began selling Elvis CDs, photo books, FTD releases, and other Elvis-related items by mail order. In 2012, he edited the book, Elvis Presley Album Essays (written by Reiko Yukawa, published by anika in Japanese) and wrote and published FTD WORLD - The World of Official Bootlegs (anika). In 2015, he established Studio Art-Elle, an Elvis mail-order and video / music studio. In 2020, he partnered with the British company, Good Music, to release the 5-CD series, Elvis Reborn, which utilizes the latest DES technology to convert Elvis' 1950s songs from mono to stereo. He wrote and published his most recent work, Elvis: The Stories Behind the Birth of His Greatest Hits, 1969-71 in 2025 (published by Studio Art-Elle in Japanese).
